Decades of research have taught us a lot about why people get cancer. The mystery is why, even when they have multiple risk factors, some people don’t.
If we can uncover the hidden mechanisms that help certain high-risk people avoid cancer, we could use them to protect everyone else, too.
That’s why ‘Cancer Avoidance’ is one of the seven new challenges announced today by Cancer Grand Challenges, the global research initiative that is already changing how we think about cancer metabolism, cancer in under-50s and immunotherapy.
Now, funding awards of up to £20m are available for international research teams with the expertise and vision to take on one of seven new challenges – each with the potential to shape cancer research, and change lives, for decades to come.
