SUMMARY:Application of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act
DESCRIPTION:This unit will broaden and deepen knowledge beyond that in UK “l” and EU 1 modules. It will develop the reflective and analytical skills allowing learners to contribute fully to the implementation of the Act with regards to the 3R’s\, effective animal welfare and good science. This module aims to provide an understanding of ASPA and the legal responsibilities of the personnel involved. It will cover the responsibilities of those holding “named” positions and those licensed under ASPA to carry out procedures on animals\, as well as those not carrying out procedures but taking care of animals or killing animals. It should be considered alongside other relevant animal legislation.\n\nFace to Face learning – 9th and 10th Feb 2026 at the Advance Training Centre.\n\nThis course requires completion of a pre-course refresher online training: Research Animal Training module 01 – UK Legislation (L) with certificate. This will take approximately 3 hours to complete. Material will be available two weeks before the course starts.\nCourse Details\nDiploma Credits: 20\n\nIAT CPD Credits: 30\n\nTutors: David Anderson / Kathy Ryder\nYou will cover\n\n 	Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act\n 	Ethical Reviews\n\nKey Skills you will develop\n\n 	Ability to discuss in detail the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act\, and your responsibilities under it\n 	Ability to critically appraise the role of the Animal Welfare Body in maintaining the health and well-being of laboratory animals\, and minimising any adverse effects of experimental or scientific procedures on animals\n 	Ability to evaluate the impact of legislation on the housing and welfare of laboratory animals\n\n \n\n*Further IAT fees may apply
