It will be delivered through a combination of pre-recorded webinars\, live webinars\, and e-learning modules. The programme will cover refinements and best practices in anaesthesia and analgesia for rodents\, rabbits\, pigs\, sheep\, and non-human primates. \n\n\n\n\nDays 1–3 (24–26 November): Led by Prof. Paul Flecknell\, focusing on anaesthesia of small rodents.\n\n\n\nDay 4 (5 December): Co-presented by Profs. Eddie Clutton and Paul Flecknell\, covering anaesthesia of rabbits\, pigs\, sheep\, and non-human primates.\n\n\n\n\nThe workshop will be hosted on the Research Animal Training website. \n\n\n\nWho Should Attend\n\n\n\nThis workshop is designed for animal technicians\, veterinarians\, researchers\, and others who wish to deepen their understanding of the topic and apply refinements to their protocols. \n\n\n\nParticipants will have access to eight e-learning modules tailored for those with limited prior experience\, along with seven hours of pre-recorded seminars. \n\n\n\nThis preparation allows the live sessions to focus primarily on problem-based learning\, progressing from simple to more complex protocols. For each practical challenge\, we will work together to identify refinements that enhance both scientific outcomes and the welfare of the animals involved. \n\n\n\nWhat to Expect\n\n\n\n\nAll participants\, including those registering for Day 4 only\, will have access to pre-recorded seminars and a series of e-learning modules.\n\n\n\nTo support flexible scheduling\, the pre-recorded seminars are divided into shorter 15–30 minute video segments that can be viewed independently.\n\n\n\nThe e-learning modules\, aligned with EU21 learning outcomes\, are organised into individual lessons\, allowing participants to pause and resume at their convenience.\n\n\n\nLive sessions will be held at 13:30–15:30 (UK time) on 24th\, 25th\, and 26th November\, and on 5th Decemberfrom 09:00–13:00 and 14:00–16:30.\n\n\n\n\nContent\n\n\n\n\nOver 7 hours of pre-recorded seminars.\n\n\n\nEight e-learning modules.\n\n\n\nDays 1–3: Three 2-hour live\, problem-based sessions on rodents.\n\n\n\nDay 4: Four 1-hour seminars followed by 2.5 hours of problem-based sessions on larger species.\n\n\n\nSupplementary reading and reference materials.\n\n\n\nAll pre-recorded content is available in advance\, and participants are encouraged to review it before the live sessions.\n\n\n\nParticipants can access all content for 3 months after its release.\n\n\n\nWorkshop registration also includes access to all other training materials on the Research Animal Training (RAT) website.\n\n\n\n\nInteractivity\n\n\n\n\nPre-recorded seminars and e-learning modules will be available on www.researchanimaltraining.com\, while live sessions will be conducted via the Teams webinar platform.\n\n\n\nInteractive elements will be supported using Mentimeter (mentimeter.com).\n\n\n\nWhile not required\, participants may find it helpful to have a smartphone or tablet in addition to a laptop for the interactive sessions.\n\n\n\n\nWorkshop Programme\n\n\n\nDays 1–3 (24th–26th November) \n\n\n\n13:30–15:30: Interactive sessions – Managing anaesthesia of laboratory rodents \n\n\n\n\nScenario-based exercises will encourage participants to apply their knowledge of rodent anaesthesia to solve practical problems.\n\n\n\nSessions will also include time for general discussion and Q&A.\n\n\n\n\nDay 4 (5th December) \n\n\n\n09:00–13:00: Live webinars – What you need to know if you anaesthetise rabbits\, pigs\, sheep\, or primates \n\n\n\n\nWebinars for each species\, followed by Q&A sessions.\n\n\n\n\n14:00–16:30: Interactive sessions – Managing anaesthesia of larger species \n\n\n\n\nScenario-based exercises will focus on applying knowledge of anaesthesia to practical problems\, with an emphasis on using and interpreting data from monitoring devices.\n\n\n\nTime will also be allocated for discussion and Q&A.\n\n\n\n\nParticipant numbers are limited to ensure interactive sessions remain engaging and effective. \n\n\n\nMake best practice your practice and sign up today.

SUMMARY:Fostering collaboration: AWERB and scientists united
DESCRIPTION:Good engagement and communication between scientists and the AWERB are essential to ensure that the AWERB can implement all of its functions effectively\, with benefits for animal welfare\, science\, staff morale and the establishment’s culture of care. However\, some AWERB members may have little contact with scientists other than during project review. Conversely\, scientists may be unfamiliar with the AWERB’s tasks\, apart from project review\, and unsure how the AWERB can benefit them. This webinar\, led by the RSPCA Animals in Science team\, will discuss ways to improve this working relationship and foster mutual understanding through clear communication and engagement.

SUMMARY:Be Open About Animal Research Day #BOARD25
DESCRIPTION:#BOARD25\, which runs for 24 hours across the globe\, will take place on 3 June 2025\, during the FELASA 2025 Congress. It follows the success of BOARD24\, which saw over 1\,000 biomedical institutions participate and a record 220 partner institutions from 48 countries across six continents. \n \nTo show your interest\, simply complete this form to register by the end of February. \n \nThere’s no need to submit content yet as final materials only need to be sent by the end of April. \n \nHere are some ways to get involved: \n\n\n Partner: Feature your institution’s logo among our global supporters.\n Contribute: Provide quotes\, statements\, or your own examples of openness in animal research.\n Participate: Join a Q&A video to share your experiences.\n\nBy registering EARA can also provide assistance with production of your materials. So join us in making #BOARD25 another global success!  \nFor more information\, contact Inês Serrenho\, BOARD global campaign co-ordinator\, at iserrenho@eara.eu.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: PUBLISHING ANIMAL USE STATISTICS
DESCRIPTION:In the lead up to the publication of Great Britain’s 2024 animal research statistics\, this webinar will look at how Concordat on Openness signatories proactively share their animal use data with the public. We will look at how this complex data can be used to explain why\, how and when animals are used in scientific research. This will include looking at how the data is presented\, what data to include\, and how supporting information such as case studies can give additional context. \n\n\n\nThis webinar will primarily focus on giving advice to organisations that carry out animal research who want to explore new ways to present this data. However\, we will also include tips for funders who want advice on how to share data on the proportion of research they fund that involves animals.
