SUMMARY:EARA Webinar: The Role of Veterinarians in Animal Research
DESCRIPTION:Veterinarians play a crucial role in animal research\, yet many people are unaware that animals involved in scientific studies receive veterinary care. Veterinarians ensure that all ethical regulations and animal welfare standards are upheld within an institution\, be it public or private. They are the first to raise concerns when these standards are not met\, and they adhere to the highest standards for a global culture of care. \n\n\n\nThis is the second edition of EARA webinars\, after a very successful first one with over 200 attendees on patient engagement in animal research and direct contact with the researchers working on their conditions. \n\n\n\nNow we turn to a specialised and diverse panel of veterinarians working with animals for scientific purposes.  \n\n\n\nConfirmed speakers: \n\n\n\n\nLucie Côté (McGill University Health Centre – Research Institute\, Canada)\n\n\n\nMerel Wegman (Biomedical Primate Research Center\, The Netherlands)\n\n\n\nMichael McKinney (Vanderbilt University\, USA)\n\n\n\nMore speakers to be announced in the upcoming weeks\n\n\n\n\nThe event will end with a panel discussion moderated by Lucie Côté with all participants. \n\n\n\nWe hope this event enlightens diverse audiences about the role of veterinarians in animal research and their mission to ensure animals receive the best possible care while they participate in life-changing studies. \n\n\n\nThis event is online only. Registration is free but mandatory. \n\n\n\nA certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants.

SUMMARY:Fostering collaboration: AWERB and scientists united
DESCRIPTION:Good engagement and communication between scientists and the AWERB are essential to ensure that the AWERB can implement all of its functions effectively\, with benefits for animal welfare\, science\, staff morale and the establishment’s culture of care. However\, some AWERB members may have little contact with scientists other than during project review. Conversely\, scientists may be unfamiliar with the AWERB’s tasks\, apart from project review\, and unsure how the AWERB can benefit them. This webinar\, led by the RSPCA Animals in Science team\, will discuss ways to improve this working relationship and foster mutual understanding through clear communication and engagement.

SUMMARY:Be Open About Animal Research Day #BOARD25
DESCRIPTION:#BOARD25\, which runs for 24 hours across the globe\, will take place on 3 June 2025\, during the FELASA 2025 Congress. It follows the success of BOARD24\, which saw over 1\,000 biomedical institutions participate and a record 220 partner institutions from 48 countries across six continents. \n \nTo show your interest\, simply complete this form to register by the end of February. \n \nThere’s no need to submit content yet as final materials only need to be sent by the end of April. \n \nHere are some ways to get involved: \n\n\n Partner: Feature your institution’s logo among our global supporters.\n Contribute: Provide quotes\, statements\, or your own examples of openness in animal research.\n Participate: Join a Q&A video to share your experiences.\n\nBy registering EARA can also provide assistance with production of your materials. So join us in making #BOARD25 another global success!  \nFor more information\, contact Inês Serrenho\, BOARD global campaign co-ordinator\, at iserrenho@eara.eu.

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: PUBLISHING ANIMAL USE STATISTICS
DESCRIPTION:In the lead up to the publication of Great Britain’s 2024 animal research statistics\, this webinar will look at how Concordat on Openness signatories proactively share their animal use data with the public. We will look at how this complex data can be used to explain why\, how and when animals are used in scientific research. This will include looking at how the data is presented\, what data to include\, and how supporting information such as case studies can give additional context. \n\n\n\nThis webinar will primarily focus on giving advice to organisations that carry out animal research who want to explore new ways to present this data. However\, we will also include tips for funders who want advice on how to share data on the proportion of research they fund that involves animals.
