SUMMARY:Advanced anaesthesia for surgical or prolonged procedures
DESCRIPTION:This unit provides information on the use of anaesthetics for surgical procedures. It also includes information on the use of anaesthetics to provide humane restraint during other\, non-painful\, procedures\, such as imaging. After completion of this module\, learners should have an understanding of factors influencing the selection and application of anaesthesia for these procedures. \nOnline only – 12-14th May 2025. Materials will release two weeks in advance. \nWe highly recommend completion of the level 5 unit Anaesthesia for minor procedures before attending this unit. \nCourse Details\nCourse length: 200 hours \nCredits: 20 \nTeacher: Paul Flecknell \nYou will cover\n\nAnaesthesia for both surgical and non-surgical procedures\nBalanced anaesthesia\nPost anaesthetic recovery\n\nKey Skills you will develop\n\nAn understanding of why anaesthesia is required for both surgical and non-surgical procedures\nAbility to describe how different drug classes interact to produce the three components of the anaesthetic triad to different degrees\, and how balanced anaesthesia might be best achieved by using combinations\nAbility to describe methods to optimise post anaesthetic recovery to ensure a smooth and rapid recovery from anaesthesia\n\n  \n*Further IAT fees may apply

SUMMARY:Workshop: Anaesthesia and Perioperative Care of Laboratory Rodents
DESCRIPTION:Research Animal Training (RAT) will be hosting another of our anaesthesia workshops in May 2025. As previously it will be delivered using a combination of pre-recorded webinars\, “live” webinars and e-learning modules. \n\nNew for this workshop – a discussion of the use of local anaesthetics as anaesthetic adjuncts in small laboratory rodents.\n\nThe workshop will be hosted on the Research Animal Training website and the workshop facilitator will be Professor Paul Flecknell

SUMMARY:DNA to Disease: Genetics for Beginners
DESCRIPTION:What is a gene? What is DNA? How do these make proteins? What goes wrong and causes disease in the human body? This course provides a comprehensive introduction into genetics\, covering the genetic code and how this leads to protein formation\, as well as how errors in DNA can lead to disease. \nAfter this course\, you will be able to:\n\nUnderstand the concept of DNA and how genetic traits are inherited from one generation to the next\nUnderstand what genes are and how they code for different proteins\nUnderstand the role of different proteins in making different cell types\nUnderstand some of the processes by which genetic disease can occur\n\nWho is this for\n\nAnimal Technicians\nTechnical Staff\nThose who are new to genetics
