SUMMARY:59th The EUROTOX 2025 Congress
DESCRIPTION:The EUROTOX 2025 Congress will take place on 14-17 September 2025\, in Athens\, Greece. \n\n\n\nThe real risks society faces\, render necessary an approach that integrates scientific and technological advances\, ensuring new technologies do not endanger health or the environment. Toxicology must evolve to address these challenges\, developing sustainable solutions for long-term public health. The theme of Eurotox 2025\, “Toxicology addresses Society’s real-life risks for sustainable health and well-being\,” addresses this need.

SUMMARY:LMB Seminar: One or two membranes?
DESCRIPTION:Investigating the transition between monoderm and diderm cell envelopes across the Tree of Bacteria – In person only.\n\n\n\nSpeaker: Simonetta Gribaldo\, Institut Pasteur \n\n\n\nThe cell envelope is one of the oldest and most fundamental biological structures\, and a major target of antimicrobials. Bacteria can have radically different envelopes\, containing either one (monoderm) or two (diderm) membranes\, generally known as Gram-positives and Gram-negatives. How and why such dramatic transition occurred has remained a major open question in evolutionary biology. In my talk\, I will present recent data where we addressed this issue by merging large-scale computational analyses with experimental evolution using a new bacterial model at the interface between diderms and monoderms. Our results challenge established paradigms and propose a hypothesis on how the monoderm/diderm transition might have occurred. \n\n\n\nMax Perutz Lecture Theatre\, LMB and Webinar.
